CLOVERCREST HOTEL

At our studio, we’re often drawn to projects that sit at the intersection of heritage and evolution — and the Clovercrest Hotel is a perfect example of this balance. As one of Adelaide’s long-standing suburban pubs, The Clovey carries decades of local history, layered with memories of community, family dinners, front bar catch-ups, and celebrations.

The Clovercrest has always had strong bones. The front bar — one of the few original suburban bars still operating in its traditional form — set the tone for our approach. We wanted to retain that authentic pub atmosphere: warm, unpretentious, and familiar. Rather than adopting a trendy fit out that would age quickly, we worked with timeless materials that feel grounded in the hotel’s suburban identity. Warm timber grains, earthy neutrals, and resilient surfaces were carefully selected to withstand daily pub life while providing subtle nods to the hotel’s mid-century foundation.

One of the key considerations in any suburban hospitality space is longevity — not just in terms of wear and tear, but in maintaining relevance across a diverse clientele. We introduced design solutions that allow the hotel to operate seamlessly across multiple uses, from bistro and family dining to sports viewing, gaming, function areas, and refreshed accommodation suites. Each zone carries its own design rhythm, but remains cohesive as part of the larger hotel experience.

In suburban hotels, comfort is currency. We deliberately curated spaces that feel generous and welcoming, with layouts that adapt easily to different patron needs. The lighting was carefully layered to soften each space and create intimacy throughout the day and into the evening. All the finishes were chosen to balance functionality with a sense of warmth, ensuring that every part of the hotel feels both durable and inviting. Our aim was always for patrons to feel that effortless sense of being at home — where nothing feels precious, but everything feels thoughtfully considered.

Some of the most rewarding design outcomes are often the quietest. The subtle pairing of timber tones and textured laminates, neutral upholstery choices that balance durability and softness, and lighting that defines each moment of the day, all work together to create an environment that feels natural and enduring. It’s these details that help a venue remain timeless — both for loyal locals who know every corner, and for new guests walking in for the first time.
