MARION HOTEL
our intention was to create a space that felt elevated yet approachable — balancing warmth, atmosphere and functionality in equal measure.
The central bar was designed as a sculptural focal point. Its curved form softens the spatial flow, inviting movement and encouraging connection from every angle. Layered lighting — from the soft under-bar glow to the suspended feature elements above — creates depth and intimacy, particularly as the space transitions from day to night. Dark vertical elements provide rhythm and structure, while natural greenery introduces contrast and life, preventing the palette from feeling too heavy. The result is a bar environment that feels immersive and considered, yet effortlessly welcoming.
Materiality was key to achieving this atmosphere. Rich timber tones, tactile finishes and ambient lighting work together to create a grounded, sophisticated mood. The terrazzo flooring adds durability and texture, while bespoke joinery details elevate the overall aesthetic. Every surface was selected to withstand the demands of hospitality while still delivering a premium experience.
Artwork plays an equally important role in shaping the guest journey. Oversized pieces anchor transitional spaces and add moments of pause — creating visual impact without overwhelming the architecture. We wanted each area within the hotel to feel distinct, yet cohesively tied together through a consistent palette and refined detailing.
Ultimately, our vision for the Marion Hotel was to design a contemporary hospitality environment that feels timeless rather than trend-driven — a space that reflects Adelaide’s evolving dining culture while offering comfort, warmth and a strong sense of identity.
